Batavia Armory Building, Batavia, NY

Project Overview
The Batavia Armory is a 12,000-square-foot facility, with a partial basement, built in 1963 and situated on a 4.6-acre lot within the City of Batavia. In addition to the main armory building, the property also features a separate,11,896-square-foot maintenance garage and storage building, and a large paved parking lot. The property is adjacent to the New York State School for the Blind.
Design Intent
The objective is to transform the Batavia Armory into a new use and space. The overall goal of the project is to make the Batavia Armory a destination that can become an integral part of the community and possibly draw visitors from outside the region as well based on the new determined use.
Apart from the 2 existing buildings, the client visualized a student housing building to be incorporated in the site design as a future expansion goal. Student housing is best fit in the area due to the presence of 10 schools in the 1 mile radius of the site.
